Summer is here and while the warm weather and longer hours of daylight can revive and rejuvenate your spirits, you can often get lost in the enjoyment of the beautiful days to the point that your daily tasks become neglected.  Summer has a tendency to become unstructured while life has a tendency to keep moving forward at the same pace that it always has. You can easily get lost in this lack of structure and find yourself overwhelmed with a list of incomplete tasks that need doing.  If this happens and the responsibilities of life begin to pile up on you, unnecessary stress can be the result. As you know, stress does terrible things to your body. In an effort to keep stress at a minimum so you can enjoy your summer days without losing focus on living, here are four tips that will help you deal with the unstructured days of summer.

Summer is upon us, finally, it seemed like winter just didn’t want to let go this year. Now is the time to celebrate cooling foods and start to break into the seasonal fruits and veggies. I still recommend a good green smoothie, year round, but now you can start to reduce the heat in the ginger etc. and start to add in more cooling herbs and spices to cool down the body.Raw foods are more cooling to the body so think cucumber, radish, spinach and kale for example.

Resilientista Road Trip ~ Spencer Gorge             Tew Waterfall

Just a short drive west of Toronto you will find this amazing waterfall! It is described as a ribbon waterfall - it's 134.5 feet in height making it the tallest in Hamilton. It really is breath taking and that it's within an hour or so of Toronto, makes it a great road trip destination. The Spencer Gorge where the Tew falls is located was carved out by the body of water that preceded Spencer Creek , about ten thousand years ago.
During the week you are able to park at the parking lot right at the falls; but due to the amount of people that descend onto the area on weekends, parking is at the Christie Lake Conservation and a shuttle bus will transport you to and from the Tew and Webster Falls at no charge (there is a $20 entrance fee -A parking fee of $10 per vehicle and a per person fee of $5 applies-  to get into Christie Lake).
Once you have taken in the beauty of the free flow water, continue on the Bruce Trail and about 30 minutes later you will arrive at the most amazing natural view I have seen in a super long time. Don't worry there are plenty of viewing platforms to stop at along the way and take in the Tew from different angles. The trail is well maintained but, it is a slight steep climb in certain areas. Make sure you bring your water bottle (especially on hot days) to ensure you stay hydrated.

Travel Time From Toronto: 1 hour (approx,)
Location: 590 Harvest Road , Hamilton
Getting There: Take QEW to Hwy 403 take the Hwy 6 N (Guelph) exit and travel approximately 3 km to Hwy 5 E. (Dundas St. E.). Turn left on Hwy 5 E. and then turn left onto Brock Road. Turn left onto Harvest Rd.
The shuttle stops at Webster Falls on it's way back to the parking lot. I highly suggest making the pit stop. And this is the perfect spot to also enjoy a picnic lunch or relaxing break.

NOTE: currently there is no access to the bottom of Tews Falls.

These are just two of the many waterfalls in the area - for a full listing check out
City of Waterfalls.

Like many women Maggie had forgotten all about her own self care, she had no downtime, was go-go-go all the time, and was pleasing others before pleasing herself.

She was stretching herself thinner and thinner - and something had to give. Frustrated with flooding, anxiety, insomnia, PMS, fibroids, anaemia and heightened stress, she knew things with her current lifestyle choices had to change. As Maggie made some tough choices, she discovered that having her hormones in balance and getting proper sleep had to become non-negotiable.

Today, she is helping other women  to nurture themselves back to balance, and to get a proper night's sleep.

We are super excited to have Maggie, as part of the Resilientista contributing team, her articles are filled with valuable information to help readers balance their hormones and practice proper sleep habits.

Sex and the City fans, will recall that moment Carrie and Mr. Big interacted for the first time, as he picked up her condoms from the NYC sidewalk. Had her goodies been secure in a "on the go sex pouch" in her handbag, the awkward moment may have been avoided.

Whether you are newly single or have been single for awhile re-entering the dating world can be a bit scary and intimidating. A lot has changed since we were dating in our 20’s particularly with online dating being the “new normal” to meet potential mates.

When I decided to start dating again, I was in my 40’s and I cringed at the thought of having to put myself out there again. I didn’t know what to expect or what I would find but I knew I had to go in with an open mind and positive attitude if I was going to have any success.

All relationships centre around compatibility.  We all recognize compatibility – they are the relationships that flow easily, the ones we call ‘good’ relationships.  We also have ‘bad’ relationships with people that we know we’re incompatible with - we often try to work at these relationships, hoping to make it better.
If the relationship is with a family member or a co-worker, we do what we can to live in harmony, but when it is with a chosen significant other, we have three options that can lead to peace:

Sandy O'Shea is the kind of gal pal every women needs. Her non-judgmental nature, allows you to be yourself, and her cheerleader attitude will keep you moving towards your goals. When Resilientista was just an "idea" Sandy was a great listener; always encouraging, believing in my dream of starting an on-line publication to help women live their best life! - when I was not sure it would be possible.

She is the first to volunteer her help whether it's business, personal or for charity. You can't help but smile (and sometimes laugh) when Sandy is around, even when you are having a not so good day. Sandy has a real zest for life, she enjoys life with her husband and feline babies.
After receiving her designation as a Certified Nutritional Practitioner (CNP), she founded Stepping Stones Wellness, where she is helping women (and men) boost their libido so they can enjoy a better sex life by balancing their hormones through the right nutrition.

Meal you could eat everyday?
Some sort of smoothie.  I like to alternate between green and chocolate smoothies.  I'm experimenting with different combos but smoothies are just so versatile.

Favourite fitness activity?
Other than sex?  Dancing!!  I get lost in the music ...

What was your childhood dream job?
I don't remember that far back but when I was 22 my dream was to own a fitness facility that had trainers, chiropractors, nutritionists, naturopaths ... a wide variety of natural health practitioners.

What woman inspires you and why?
Marlene Marco, founder of Heart of Networking. She is elegant, gracious, a major connector of people, always uplifting and supportive and a lot of fun.  Always in the middle of things, the woman is everywhere.  She's 64, a 3 or 4 time cancer survivor and just a dynamo!

Your go to affirmation?
I am strong, I am powerful, I am worthy, I am ENOUGH.

When you are driving along, and the GPS begins to say "Recalculating" it's often because you have taken a different path than originally mapped or perhaps an unexpected event(s) occurred ahead - and the GPS is directing you towards a more efficient route to reach your destination. The Universe is like GPS for life ... if we are straying from where we are suppose to be, events will occur to help steer us back. Unfortunately these events may not always happen in the form of a joyous occasion, most often they are gut wrenching, WTF kinda of events.
