Stepping off the subway and making my way through the PATH, in Toronto the other day, it was like being in a vault of everything hearts, from window displays to store shelves. Yes, that time of the year is here - when you start seeing and hearing the ads "This Valentine's say it with love - give your beloved ( fill-in the blank with: jewelry, chocolates, flowers etc. )". And then let's not forget the sponsored ads that pop up as we scroll through our Insta, FB, and other social media feeds. Soon we will be scrolling down our feeds, seeing photo after photo of "look what my beloved surprised me with"! All of this is a constant reminder to the gal going it solo, like myself, that we have no one to show our love to or to be shown that we are loved. OR IS IT?
Spoiler Alert! ... no it does not mean you are excluded from this day of love. How can I be so sure, you might be thinking. Well here is my thought - even when you are going it solo you are in a relationship.
Lovelies, we have been in a relationship with ourselves from the day (some would even argue - before) we are born. Yet, this is often the relationship we take for granted, and spend the least amount of time nurturing. Continuously looking for external validation that we are worthy of being loved. So as the (commercialized) day of love comes around whether you are in an external relationship or going it solo - take a few moments to consider how you have been treating yourself. What can you start doing to show yourself how grateful you are for overcoming the lemons life throws at you; or how much you love and appreciate your body, mind and soul, for getting you through each day of your life?
So this Valentine's whether you are part of a couple or going it solo celebrate your love of you! because as you can see you are always in a relationship with you. See below for some wonderful ideas I shared a few years back, on High Heeled Life, on how you can be your own Valentine.
How are you showing yourself some love?
I encourage you to share on your social media feeds the amazing way(s) you are showing yourself SELF LOVE leading up to this Valentine's Day! hashtag #resilientistaselflove and spread the power of self love!
